Gloria Allred wants Rush Limbaugh arrested

Gloria Allred  Hope's Rush Limbaugh Gets Arrested
March 10, 2012 by The Godfather
Liberal lawyer Gloria Allred wants Rush Limbaugh arrested. She may want to rethink this latest publicity stunt.
By the now the Left was sure that Rush Limbaugh would be off the air. His comments about Georgetown law Student Sandra Fluke and the list of companies that cancelled their advertising for his how had them dancing with glee. Their biggest political thorn in the flesh was going down. No such luck.
The outpouring of support for Rush Limbaugh has been overwhelming. Advertisers have been replaced. Rush has shown the utter hypocrisy of the mainstream media by pointing out the laundry list of liberal rants and verbal sexual attacks on conservative women. Even many in the media are commenting on it. For example, Kirsten Powers, a Fox News analyst, wrote “Rush Limbaugh Isn’t the Only Media Misogynist” for the Daily Beast. Here’s how she opens her article:
Did you know there is a war on women?
Yes, it’s true. Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Bill Maher, Matt Taibbi, and Ed Schultz have been waging it for years with their misogynist outbursts. There have been boycotts by people on the left who are outraged that these guys still have jobs. Oh, wait. Sorry, that never happened.
Exactly! It never happened. “But if Limbaugh’s actions demand a boycott — and they do —,” Powers wrote, “then what about the army of swine on the left? Boycotts are reserved for people on the right like Rush Limbaugh. . . .”
An example of the double standard is Gloria Allred, the Left’s premier legal attack dog. She wants Limbaugh prosecuted for calling Fluke a “slut” and “prostitute.” She wrote a letter to the Palm Beach County State Attorney Michael McAuliffe asking whether Limbaugh had violated Section 836.04 of the Florida Statutes.
The statute stipulates that anyone who “speaks of and concerning any woman, married or unmarried, falsely and maliciously imputing to her a want of chastity” is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree. If Rush was found guilty, the maximum penalty would be one year in jail and a $1000 fine.
I would love to see this go to trial. Ms. Fluke would have to testify as to her sexual history. In doing so, it might confirm the very things Rush said about her. Witnesses would be called to testify. While I don’t know how many sexual partners Ms. Fluke has had, but just to ask the questions would prove much more embarrassing to her.
Then the issue of the liberal double standard would be brought out. There’s so much of evidence of this that we might see liberal talkers brought to trial as well. We might even see some politicians face the judge. It would be heaven. You know Rush Limbaugh would have the best high-profile lawyers defending him. It would be Oliver North and Iran-Contra all over again. The best in free entertainment.
Liberals are trying to get around the double standard accusation by claiming that the conservative women who were verbally attacked with sexual barbs were “public figures.” As soon as Ms. Fluke agreed to speak out publicly on the birth control issue, she became a public figure. She has since appeared on a number of radio and television shows.
Liberal hypocrisy runs deep. Let’s go to trial!

Obama's Policies ? American Voter: Are YOU in favor of ceding US military sovereignty, increasing the federal deficit, and $8 a gallon gasoline?

Posted by BH

By john Lillpop

Hello, America, are you awake and paying attention?
If not, now would be an excellent time to inform yourself so as to participate intelligently in the most crucial election in our nation’s history, now less than eight months away.In this, the “Information Age,” a mouse, a broadband connection, a discerning mind, and a healthy disrespect for all politicians are vital requisites for ferreting out the truth, or a reasonable facsimile thereof.
Armed with just those tools, the inquisitive soul would have been shocked to hear Obama cabinet members Panetta, Sibelius, and Chu testify before Congress this week and, in the process, trash the concept of US military sovereignty; expose the fact that contrary to promises, ObamaCare may actually increase the federal deficit, and reveal why the Department of Energy is being run by an leftwing elitist who thinks that $8 a gallon gasoline would be good for America.
To begin this sad journey, consider the remarks of Defense Secretary Leon Panetta as reported, in part:

Panetta Surrenders US Military Sovereignty:

“During the hearing yesterday Panetta and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey brazenly admitted that their authority comes not from the U.S. Constitution, but that the United States is subservient to and takes its marching orders from the United Nations and NATO, international bodies over which the American people have no democratic influence.
Panetta was asked by Senator Jeff Sessions, “We spend our time worrying about the U.N., the Arab League, NATO and too little time, in my opinion, worrying about the elected representatives of the United States. As you go forward, will you consult with the United States Congress?”
The Defense Secretary responded “You know, our goal would be to seek international permission. And we would come to the Congress and inform you and determine how best to approach this, whether or not we would want to get permission from the Congress.”
Despite Sessions’ repeated efforts to get Panetta to acknowledge that the United States Congress is supreme to the likes of NATO and the UN, Panetta exalted the power of international bodies over the US legislative branch.
“I’m really baffled by the idea that somehow an international assembly provides a legal basis for the United States military to be deployed in combat,” Sessions said. “I don’t believe it’s close to being correct. They provide no legal authority. The only legal authority that’s required to deploy the United States military is of the Congress and the president and the law and the Constitution.”
Panetta’s assertion that he would seek “international permission” before ‘informing’ Congress about the actions of the US military provoked a firestorm of controversy, prompting the Pentagon to engage in damage control by claiming Panetta’s comments were misinterpreted.”

Sibelius Exposes Lies About Cost of ObamaCare

As reported in part:
Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sibelius. She testified before a Senate committee on the new national health care law this week and, in an exchange with Senator Ron Johnson (R – Wisc.), she admitted she really has no idea if Obamacare will save us money or cost us money. Well, that’s not all she admitted, but it was the first thing. We’ll get to the other ways she stumbled through Senator Johnson’s questions, but this is a good place to start. Here is a transcript of the exchange, from the Free Beacon:
“The bottom line here is, the cost of this healthcare law is so uncertain, don’t you think we ought to put the brakes on it?” Johnson asked. “You know, Nancy Pelosi said, ‘We have to pass this law to figure out what’s in it.’ What I don’t want to see is that we have to implement it to figure out how it’s going to bust a hole in our already horribly broken budget.”
SEBELIUS: The original estimate, yes. I think that’s–
JOHNSON: Right. So, the original estimate for deficit reduction–
SEBELIUS: I’m assuming–
JOHNSON: The original estimate for deficit reduction in the first 10 years was $143 billion, correct?
JOHNSON: So now we, we’ve reduced that $143 billion by $86 billion – by not getting revenue from the CLASS Act – and now $111 billion because we’ve increased the mandatory costs of the exchanges, correct?
SEBELIUS: I’m assuming the numbers are correct. I’m sorry I don’t have them.
JOHNSON: So, when you add those together, that’s $197 billion added to the first 10-year cost estimate of Obamacare, so now we are instead of saving $143 billion, we are adding $54 billion to our deficit, correct?

Chu Reveals Why He Could Care Less About Exploding Gas Prices

As reported in part:
The big news yesterday was that Energy Secretary Steven Chu does not own a car. But his wife owns a 2002 BMW 325i, which gets 21 MPG, according to the Daily Caller. Why did Chu not get her to trade in the Beamer for a Chevy Volt?
Also, as a Cabinet secretary, he gets a security detail that drives him around in an SUV, most likely a Cadillac Escalade. We can mince around with words over whether he owns a car or not, but he is not taking public transportation, walking or riding a bicycle to get everywhere.
Craig Bannister of CNS said a senator asked Chu at a budget hearing if he owned a Chevy Volt.
Said Chu: “No, I don’t own a car at the moment.”
Why does he not own a Volt?
If as he says the Volt is such a great car — if as he says our use of oil is a bigger threat to national security than terrorism — why does Chu not own a car?
His answer indicates that he does drive. Why not lead by example?
In fact, why does the president not trade in The Beat Cadillac that he rides in for security reasons for a Chevy Volt? Could it be that this Motor Trend Car of the Year and European Car of the Year be a piece of crap that has no speed, no range and takes 10 hours to refill?
If Volts ain’t good enough for our hired help, why should we bother making Volts.”
After listening to Panetta, Sibelius, and Chu, the big questions facing voters are: Are YOU in favor of ceding US military sovereignty, increasing the federal deficit, and $8 a gallon gasoline?
Or do you still love America?

Barack Obama: “Sin is Being Out of Alignment With My Values”

images (31)Not only does act like a , he equates his religion to himself and not the he professes to believe in.  It’s not about what says in the Bible, but it’s all about what Obama believes and that belief is centered around himself.
Anyone who follows mainstream Christianity knows that Obama’s home church in Chicago was led by a radical .  Rev Jeremiah Wright seemed to spend more time in the pulpit preaching radical socialism than preaching biblical theology.  So it is no wonder that Obama’s view of Christianity is so liberal that most don’t even recognize it to be Christian.
If you doubt my words, here are some excerpts from an interview conducted by Cathleen Falsani with Barack Obama in 2004 when he was running for the US Senate:
FALSANI: “Do you believe in heaven?”
OBAMA: “Do I believe in the harps and clouds and wings?”
FALSANI: “A place spiritually you go to after you die?”
OBAMA: “What I believe in is that if I live my life as well as I can, that I will be rewarded. I don’t presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die. But I feel very strongly that whether the reward is in the here and now or in the hereafter, the aligning myself to my faith and my values is a good thing.
When I tuck in my daughters at night and I feel like I’ve been a good father to them, and I see in them that I am transferring values that I got from my mother and that they’re kind people and that they’re honest people, and they’re curious people, that’s a little piece of heaven.”
FALSANI: “Do you believe in sin?”
OBAMA: “Yes.”
FALSANI: “What is sin?”
OBAMA: “Being out of alignment with my values.”
FALSANI: “What happens if you have sin in your life?”
OBAMA: “I think it’s the same thing as the question about heaven. In the same way that if I’m true to myself and my faith then that is its own reward; when I’m not true to it, it’s its own punishment.”
Christianity clearly teaches that sin is man’s disobedience of God.  Because of man’s sin, man only has the right to go to Hell which is why we need a Savior.  The Savior is Jesus Christ who as God came to earth in the form of a man, lived a sinless life, was crucified on the Cross for OUR sins, died, was buried and the rose from the dead and ascended into heaven where He prepares a place for us.
Yet from his own mouth, Obama has no idea if there is a heaven or afterlife and sin is when something goes against his own values.  He has absolutely no concept what Christianity is or what it teaches.  All he knows is that if he is good, he will get rewarded somewhere and sin about his values, not God’s.
Even Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Bill Clinton knew more about Christianity than Barack Obama does.  He is definitely the most un-Christian president the United States has ever had.

90 Young People Stoned to Death in Iraq for their Haircut's..

Posted by BH

Number of deaths could be even higher
Cleric calls the stonings 'an act of terrorism'
Ministry of Interior 'complicit' in the killings

More than 90 Iraqi students have been stoned to death for their Emo haircuts by religious extremists in Baghdad in the past month after Iraq's  interior ministry dubbed it 'devil worshipping'.
Iraq's Moral Police released a statement on the interior ministry's website condemning the 'emo phenomenon' among Iraqi youth, declaring its intent to 'eliminate' the trend.
The move is part of a wider clampdown on young people taking on what government officials call 'Western appearances' in Iraq.
Iraqi activists said this unnamed teenager was brutally killed by religious police for having an 'emo' hairstyle

'The Emo phenomenon or devil worshipping is being followed by the Moral Police who have the approval to eliminate (the phenomenon) as soon as possible since it's detrimentally affecting the society and becoming a danger,' the statement read.
'They wear strange, tight clothes that have pictures on them such as skulls and use stationary that are shaped as skulls. They also wear rings on their noses and tongues, and do other strange activities.'
Since the statement was published religious extremists have been harassing and killing teenagers with 'strange' or 'emo' appearances.

A group of armed men dressed in civilian clothing led dozens of teenagers to secluded areas a few days ago, stoned them to death, and then disposed their bodies in garbage dumpsters across the capital, according to activists, activists told the Cairo-based al-Akhbarwebsite.
The armed men are said to belong to 'one of the most extremist religious groups' in Iraq.
'First they throw concrete blocks at the boy's arms, then at his legs, then the final blow is to his head, and if he is not dead then, they start all over again,' one person who managed to escape told Al-Akhbar.
Iraq's moral police was granted approval by the Ministry of Education to enter Baghdad schools and pinpoint students with such appearances, according to the interior ministry's statement.
The exact death toll remains unclear, but Hana al-Bayaty of Brussels Tribunal, an NGO dealing with Iraqi issues, said the current figure ranges 'between 90 and 100.'
'What's most disturbing about this is that they're so young,' she said.
This 'emo' youth was one of nearly 100 who were targeted for having a western hairstyle or wearing 'American jeans'

Al-Bayaty said the killings appear to have been carried out by extremist Shia militias in mostly poor Shia neighborhoods and said she suspected 'there's complicity of the Ministry of Interior in the killings.'
Photos of the victims were released on Facebook, causing panic and fear among Iraqi students.

Described as both a cult and sect, it’s name derives from the word ‘emotional’
Its teen followers dress in black, favouring tight jeans, T-shirts, studded belts and sneakers or skater shoes.
Hair is often dyed black and straightened, and worn in a long fringe brushed to one side of the face.
Music also plays a critical role, Emos like guitar-based rock with emotional lyrics – bands such as My Chemical Romance, Jimmy Eat World, and Dashboard Confessional are particular favourites.
They regard themselves as a cool, young sub-set of the Goths.
With the trend comes accusations of self-harming and suicide – something its followers strongly deny.
A young man with long hair was among those fearful at the  government-ordained harassment of teenagers with Western appearances.
'I have long hair but that doesn't mean I'm an Emo. I'm not less of a man if I have long hair. Let's not say that if I have long hair, I'm a homosexual, but I have long hair because this is my style, this is me,' he told Iraq's Al-Sharqiya television network.
Safiyyah al-Suhail, an MP, said on Thursday that 'some students have been recently arrested because they were wearing American jeans or had Western haircuts.'
The interior ministry has not disclosed the number of teenage victims, but released a follow-up statement on Thursday warning extremists 'not to step on public freedom of Iraqis.'
News of the gruesome deaths drew a stern reaction from Iraq's prominent Shia cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, who criticised the stoning of the young men as 'an act of terrorism.'
He added: 'The Ministry of Interior took this situation very seriously and received an approval from the Ministry of Education to set a plan under my full supervision and to allow us to enter schools in the capital.'
'There are some cases of the spread of this phenomenon specifically among schools in Baghdad, but we are facing great difficulty in the lack of women on the force who would allow us to carry the investigation more accurately since the phenomenon is more popular among girls between the ages of 14 and 18.'

Courthouse Shooting Reported In Montesano, Wash.

MONTESANO, Wash. — A man stabbed a judge and shot a sheriff's deputy with her own weapon in a courthouse struggle Friday, said authorities who were searching for the assailant.

The suspect might still have the officer's gun and was last seen running from the Grays Harbor County Courthouse, said Undersheriff Rick Scott. The motive for the attack in the coastal town of Montesano, about 90 miles southwest of Seattle, wasn't clear.
Judge David Edwards and Deputy Polly Davin were treated and released from a hospital hours after the attack, which prompted a lockdown of the small town of about 4,000 residents. The lockdown on schools was later lifted, but afterschool activities were canceled.
Scott said Davin responded to a report of a suspicious person at the courthouse and confronted a man. During a struggle, she was stabbed with either a small knife or scissors, he said. The judge intervened, striking the assailant, who then stabbed him, authorities said.
Davin reached for her gun, but it was wrestled away by the man, who shot twice, striking her in the shoulder before fleeing, Scott said.

The attack comes less than three months after Edwards had joined a lawsuit filed over county budget cuts he said were making the courthouse less safe. The courthouse is not equipped with a metal detector and there was no on-site security on Friday, Scott said.

"Our courthouse is one of the few of its size that doesn't have full-time security," he said. "We just had a discussion about courthouse security less than a week ago. The need for that is certainly illustrated by situations like this."

There have been a number of dangerous episodes inside the courthouse over the last two years, including a defendant charging at one judge in a courtroom and a man armed with a knife asking directions to the office of a judge, the lawsuit filed in December said.
"Anyone can enter the courthouse carrying weapons," the lawsuit said.

According to budget information from the county, the superior court budget was cut from $733,320 in 2010 to $645,818 for 2012.
Kathie Wilson, who works at a law firm near the courthouse, said her office locked its doors after getting a call from her daughter-in-law, who was locked in a school while picking up her child.

Edwards was appointed to Grays Harbor County Superior Court in 2007 by Gov. Chris Gregoire. He had been a private attorney, and had also served as a prosecutor in the late 1970s.

Davin is a former Daily World reporter who became a sheriff's deputy in 1998.

Sunspot AR1429 has unleashed another strong flare, an M6-class eruption on March 9th at 0358 UT. The blast hurled a coronal mass ejection almost directly toward Earth. According to analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab, the CME will arrive on March 11th at 0649 UT (+/- 7 hr). NOAA forecasters say the odds of a strong geomagnetic storm at that time is 50%.
The same eruption that hurled the CME toward Earth also produced a monsterous tsunami of plasma on the sun. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the shadowy but powerful wave rippling away from the blast site:
The tsumani was about 100,000 km high and raced outward at 250 km/s with a total energy of about 2 million megatons of TNT. Such waves often underlie CMEs like the one en route to Earth now.
Animated forecast tracks show that the CME will also hit the Mars Science Lab (MSL) spacecraft on March 12th followed by Mars itself on March 13th. Mars rover Curiosity onboard MSL might get some interesting readings as the cloud passes by.
CALM BEFORE THE STORM: Earth's magnetic field is growing quiet again after two days of geomagnetic storming prompted by CME impacts. At the peak of the disturbance on March 9th, Northern Lights were spotted in the United States as far south as the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Oregon, Wyoming, Illinois, Montana, and even Kansas. The finest displays, as usual, were reserved for Alaska:
"Almost immediately after sunset, the sky began to fill with ribbons of auroras above Chena Hot Springs (just outside Fairbanks) in Alaska," reports photographer Christopher Freemantle. "The intensity grew until very bright, multicoloured and fast moving auroras were visible."
Although the magnetosphere is calm now, more storms are in the offing. A CME hurled toward our planet by the M6-class solar flare of March 9th is expected to reach Earth during the early hours of March 11th. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.

Christians who signed petitions investigated Opponents of El Paso mayor's same-sex benefits plan targeted for prosecution

author-image by Bob Unruh
A prosecutor has decided to pursue and possibly charge members of El Paso area churches who promoted petitions opposing the city administration’s decision to implement benefits for same-sex partners even after voters decided not to allow that.
The result is an emergency appeal to the state Supreme Court by attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund, which has been working on the freedom of speech dispute.
Mayor John Cook
The organization today warned that hundreds of Christians and other El Paso citizens “are facing jail time for exercising their constitutionally protected right to speak out against Mayor John Cook’s policies.”
The issue arose when voters in November 2010 placed on the ballot and passed an ordinance prohibiting unmarried domestic partner benefits in their city.
Several members of the city council refused to follow the will of the vote, and voted to rescind the ordinance approved by voters. The mayor joined in the effort.
That produced a grassroots recall campaign seeking to remove the mayor and council members who violated the will of the people.
The mayor subsequently sued Tom Brown Ministries, Word of Life Church of El Paso, El Pasoans for Traditional Family Values and other local citizens who circulated recall petitions. He cited a Texas election law, arguing that it prohibits churches from circulating a petition.
While ADF attorneys have filed a separate federal suit against the law to have it declared unconstitutional on First Amendment grounds, a state judge denied Cook’s request to order the election halted.
Then the Court of Appeals for the 8th District took up the mayor’s cause and ordered the election stopped and the petition signatures decertified. Almost immediately, El Paso District Attorney Jaime Esparza subpoenaed the petitions and convened a grand jury to proceed with possible criminal indictment of those behind the petition effort.
That leaves those who worked on petitions expressing their opposition to the decision by the mayor and council to ignore the voters’ intentions subject to criminal charges, the ADF said.
“El Paso citizens should not live in fear of being arrested and jailed for exercising their constitutionally protected right to free speech,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Joel Oster, who argued before the appeals court on Jan. 24 in Cook v. Tom Brown Ministries.
“We have more than 250 signed affidavits from local citizens who are terrified that they may go to jail for their legitimate political and free speech efforts. This is America, and the mayor can’t be allowed to put his opponents in jail just because he doesn’t like the fact that they participated in a valid effort that he doesn’t favor,” said Oster.
The ADF reported former Texas Supreme Court Justice Raul Gonzalez, ADF-allied attorney and election law expert James Bopp, ADF-allied attorneys with Liberty Institute, and local counsel Theresa Cabellero and Stuart Leeds have joined with ADF lead attorneys to represent the constitutionally protected rights of El Paso citizens. In addition to the expedited petition, the legal team also filed a motion to stay the appellate court ruling, which would put it on hold until the high court decides the matter.
A video made at the peak of the conflict earlier also surfaced, revealing Cook’s apparently disdain for others who want to state their opinion.
The video shows the mayor gives a woman, who was addressing the city council on the issue of its criticism of faith and churches, only some 70 seconds to talk, and then he told her to take her “freedom of speech outside.”
During the heat of the arguments, Father Michael Rodriguez asked the city council not to extend benefits to same-sex couples.
That request prompted a member of the council to blast representatives of the Christian faith. Beto O’Rourke referenced the “moral failings of the church” and accused representatives of trying “to take the moral high ground” in the debate.
“I want to know why this for you has become the burning issue of its day and how you can stand here with a straight face and say that this is a priority for the church and, and I can think of two obvious cases where the church has failed on a global level, uh, for one, I know in the very recent past the pope, our current pope, was in Africa, telling the people in that country (sic) who are suffering a holocaust of HIV and AIDS infection not to use condoms. I can think of another very significant and serious problem within the Catholic church which is the proven widespread abuse of children within the care of the Catholic church. I wonder where your outspokenness is on those issues…”
The mayor did not halt the attack on Christians.
But in light of that attack a woman, Elizabeth Branham, approached the podium during the public comment section of the next meeting, a week later.
“I’m here not to chastise you for your obvious lack of civility and decorum, nor address your permissiveness in allowing certain council members to personalize their attacks on certain speakers at this podium. Mayor, you specifically stated at last week’s city council meeting June the 14th that you would not allow personal attacks yet you let it happen anyway. Mr. O’Rourke, you stated at last week’s public hearings that you want to be remembered for decades for the decisions you made at city council. You will be remembered, sir, for many things. Last week, you wrongfully and disrespectfully attacked Father Michael Rodriguez and the moral failings of the Catholic church. You stated that Fr. Rodriguez was taking the moral high ground in this debate and I quote you as stating. I think there is fair folks, totally out of line…”
“Thank you, your time is over,” said Cook. “If you can’t remove yourself from the podium, I’ll have you removed. Yeah. You can take your freedom of speech outside.”

Bozell, Hannity Discuss Media's Ongoing Push to Paint GOP As Waging 'War on Women'

There's only one person who's trying to insert the reproductive rights debate into this campaign,"
NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted in the "Media Mash" segment of the March 8 edition of Fox News Channel's Hannity. It's Barack Obama who made this a live issue when he moved to push religious institutions to provide contraception, even if it violates their religious conscience to do so, Bozell noted. Sure, the media know that Obama is the one waging a "war" on this issue, but they're aggressively pushing the liberal Democratic spin on the issue as a cudgel to attack Republicans, particularly social conservative ones. In the last 10 years, America has spent more than $1 trillion and has lost thousands of US lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Both places seem far better off than when ruled by the Taliban and Saddam Hussein.

In the last 10 years, America has spent more than $1 trillion and has lost thousands of US lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Both places seem far better off than when ruled by the Taliban and Saddam Hussein.
Yet the Iraqis now seem friendlier to Iran and Syria than to their liberators. In Afghanistan, riots continue over mistaken burning of some defaced Korans, despite serial US apologies.
How about bombing the bad guys and then staying clear? We just did that to the terrorist-friendly Khadafy dictatorship in Libya. But now that Khadafy is gone, Islamic gangs torture and execute black Africans who supported the deposed regime. British World War II cemeteries that were honored during 70 years of Libyan kings and dictators were ransacked in a “free” Libya.
Not having boots on the ground may ensure that endless chaos will consume post-Khadafy Libya. That was also true of Somalia and Lebanon after US troops were attacked and abruptly left.
How about aid and words of encouragement only? We have urged Egyptian reform, under both George W. Bush and now Barack Obama. When protesters forced the removal of dictator Hosni Mubarak, the United States approved. It even appears likely that we will keep sending Egypt annual subsidies of more than $1.5 billion — as we have for more than 30 years. Yet anti-American Islamists now dominate Egyptian politics. American aid workers were recently arrested and threatened with trial by Egyptian “reformers.”
Still another US choice would be not to nation-build, bomb or even get near a Middle Eastern country — as is the case with Iran and Syria. The United States has not had diplomatic relations with Iran since the Shah left in 1979. Until the Obama administration desperately tried to re-establish contacts with the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria by appointing a new ambassador, there had been nearly six years of estrangement.
Yet Iran is nearing its goal of obtaining a nuclear weapon both to threaten Israel and to bully other Persian Gulf oil-exporting nations. The Syrian regime is butchering thousands of its citizens.
Finally, we could return to the policy of establishing friendly relationships with Mideast dictatorships regardless of their internal politics — and then keeping mum about their excesses. We did that with Pakistan, which has received billions in US aid. Yet it is hard to imagine a more anti-American country than nuclear Pakistan, without which the Taliban couldn’t kill Americans so easily in Afghanistan.
The United States once saved the Kuwaiti regime after it was swallowed up by Saddam Hussein. We’ve also enjoyed strong ties with the Saudi monarchy. Neither country seems especially friendly to us. It’s still a crime to publicly practice Christianity in Saudi Arabia. Fifteen of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudis. Mideast oil costs less than $5 a barrel to produce; it sells for more than $100, largely due to the policies of our allies and OPEC members.
Let us review: Military assistance or punitive intervention without follow-up mostly failed. The verdict on far more costly nation-building is still out. Trying to help popular insurgents topple unpopular dictators doesn’t guarantee anything better. Propping up dictators with military aid is both odious and counterproductive. Keeping clear of maniacal regimes leads to either nuclear acquisition or genocide — or 16 acres of rubble in Manhattan.
What have we learned? Tribalism, oil and Islamic fundamentalism are a bad mix that leave Americans sick and tired of the Middle East — both when they get in it and when they try to stay out.

There’s no escaping Solyndra Syndrome. In Colorado, where I live, citizen journalists have uncovered our own gaping government green-loan sinkhole. The stench of Chicago-on-the-Potomac is fouling the fresh Rocky Mountain air.
Meet Loveland-based Abound Solar, the lucky winner of a $400 million federal loan guarantee from the Obama administration. Earlier this month, the solar-module maker announced layoffs of nearly 300 employees (70 percent of its workforce). In addition, the firm froze plans to build a new factory in Indiana. Abound says it will ride out bad market conditions and “hopefully” survive until the market recovers.

But White House hope-a-nomics is what got Abound and taxpayers into trouble in the first place.

Back in 2010, President Obama promised America in his weekly radio address that Abound would “manufacture advanced solar panels at two new plants, creating more than 2,000 construction jobs and 1,500 permanent jobs.” Energy Secretary Steven Chu waved his green pom-poms, too. “Not only is this investment creating thousands of jobs, but it is also increasing our renewable energy manufacturing capacity and putting us on the path for our future prosperity.”
Like the rosy projections Obama and Chu used to justify pouring half-a-billion dollars in eco-subsidies into the now-bankrupt Solyndra, Abound’s financial outlook was based on mathematical make-believe. It raked in green government funds despite big red flags from Fitch Ratings.
GOP House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa wrote: “Fitch describes Abound as lagging in technology relative to its competitors, failing to achieve stated efficiency targets, and expecting that Abound will suffer from increasing commoditization and pricing pressures. DOE’s willingness to fund Abound, despite these concerns, calls into question the merits of this loan guarantee.”
The financial mess was reported by ABC News, but the Obama administration has so far escaped real scrutiny of his crony venture socialism.
How were Fitch’s warnings ignored? Thanks to the intrepid investigative work of Colorado’s Todd Shepherd at, Amy Oliver at the Independence Institute and Michael Sandoval at the People’s Press Collective blog, the crass political science driving this scandal has been exposed.
The loan deal appears to be textbook “pay-for-play” between Team Obama and one of Colorado’s wealthiest progressive activist scions, Pat Stryker. She’s the billionaire heiress whose family founded a medical device and software company. Her investment firm, Bohemian Cos., dumped nearly $500 million into Democratic coffers between 2008 and 2012. Bohemian also invested considerably in Abound.
Rep. Betsy Markey (D-Colo.), a backer of job-killing cap-and-trade policies and other stifling environmental regulations, pushed for the massive Abound DOE loan. As noted, Stryker donated personally to Markey’s campaign, and Abound ran ads thanking Markey for her eco-radical voting record. Like Solyndra chief investor George Kaiser, Stryker has visited the White House on more than one occasion. Like Kaiser, Stryker is a top Obama bundler.
This week, obtained a new set of documents revealing “that Abound Solar created an unexpected, and previously unreported 10-day production shutdown over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, and then went on to tell employees, ‘Don’t let the rumor mill create false purposes for this shutdown.’ The shutdown was announced to employees just after Thanksgiving by company president Craig Witsoe.”
On Thursday, Chu refused to tell House lawmakers and the public how many more DOE solar boondoggles are at risk of going under. He couldn’t “recall the exact number.” Funny how fraudulently exact they can be in cooking up jobs numbers, but how chronically amnesiac they are when it all blows up.
Hope-a-nomics: It’s every green bundler’s paradise and every taxpayer’s nightmare
